Unique Themes for a Bathroom

Decorating your child’s bathroom can be tricky. You need it to be practical and durable as well as fun and inviting. Most importantly, you need it to be changeable and capable of growing with your child without costing too much money. For this reason, try to stick with some of the basic colors for items that you might not want to replace in a few years, such as the walls and curtains, and keep your theme to decor accents Instead of having dolphin wallpaper, paint the walls blue and add a dolphin border or shower curtain. This will also keep you from going overboard with the theme.

Once you have decided on a theme, go through your attics, basement, or check out a few garage sales for possible accessories that you can use. Party supply stores are another great source for inexpensive items that you can use to accent the theme.

As mentioned earlier, you can start your theme by adding a wallpaper border and shower curtain. Then, expand it with a few accessories such as unique drawer pulls, framed prints, and other accents. You can also use theme-related stickers to decorate cups, toothbrush holders, trashcans and other accessories For added protection, cover the stickers with  a couple of coats of waterproof sealer. This can be a great craft project for you and your child to do together, and a way that you can make him or her feel involved in the project.

Below are a few possible themes and ideas that are good for any child’s bathroom.

Seaside
While there are numerous borders, shower curtains, and other accents for this theme, shells are almost essential. Try to find some unique or creative shells to decorate the bathroom. Large shells can be used as a soap holder, while smaller shells can be contained in glass bottles or sand pail. You can also hang fishnets around the room and use them to store bath toys or extra towels. You might also put a special “message” in a bottle where you periodically  leave your child notes on how special they are

Tropical Beach Party
Not to be confused with the seaside theme, a beach party focuses more on people than the beach. Hula skirts, flowered leis, sunglasses, colored flowers, and plastic flamingos are just a few of the items that can be used to decorate the bathroom. You might also paint cheap flip-flops and hang them on the wall. Then, use sand pails as a trashcan or to hold towels and other items. Speaking of towels, replace the traditional bath towels with funky beach ones. Finally, you might  consider purchasing either the sand bucket, Calypso flower, or flip flop Wallies and use them to decorate the walls if you cannot find an appropriate border.
